People call me all sorts of names. Joris is the most common one. The Japanese call me Joris-san but can’t pronounce it. Hence the nickname jorrizza. I’m Dutch, from Noord Brabant. I’m not from Holland. I’m not German. And I’m certainly not French.
I’m a Free/Libre Open Source Software (F/LOSS) activist. Debian GNU/Linux is my platform of choice, although OpenBSD has earned it’s place too. I’ve been writing code since, eh, I can’t remember. It must be long. Next to writing software I’ve been seen using it too. I like toys that can run my software, mainly the ones that make lots of noise. I have the bad habit of buying hardware just because it can potentially run Linux or another UNIX-like operating system. Most of the attempts have been successful, too.
And as the geek I obviously am, you might sometimes see me wielding a camera of some sort. I’m not a fat cheetos munching geek, I work out sometimes. Cycling insanely fast usually does it for me. People don’t always notice my presence on the road. Therefore my face has met the pavement on several occasions.
You can always invite me to a debate about anything. If I know enough about the subject I’ll have an opinion. And I’ll defend that opinion vigorously. My prime targets usually are theists, neo-liberal capitalists and the occasional Nazi.
I’ve had several jobs over the years. From web development to building networks. At the moment I’m involved in some e-commerce, business automation, engineering and system administration. I’ve got a Bachelor’s degree in information technology. I’m not that fond of the educational system in the Netherlands, so I’m leaving it at that.
Politically I’m known as a modern socialist, a leftish movement mostly known from post-WWII Europe. It focuses on equality, freedom and overall welfare. I don’t think the free market is the solution to every inherently social problem. With the increase of overall wealth people tend to move towards the more neo-liberal ways of reasoning, while completely ignoring history. Or even worse, the one-issue populists. I can’t stand this behavior.
Personally, according to a few tests, I’m an INTJ. Some people value this information. Although interesting, I can’t be bothered with it. This site describes the profile quite nicely, and I can recognize myself in some of the explanations.
Music is really important in my life. I listen to most Metal genres, with the occastional Folk or Drone. You can find me at some concerts, although I’m not that fond of big festivals.
